ONLY use glasses that match the strength of the activity, so never wear a minus for up close activity

for example, a man is -5 in both eyes
for looking at mountains, the moon, and into the distance, your full strength lens is safe to use at -5
for reading, sewing, etc, read at the point of blur, OR, with a plus lens
for day to day activities, like basic walking, street signs, a weaker prescription can be used, like a -4.

my point is, every activity in life requires a different "prescription"

myopia is caused by prolonged close up work

never use an overprescribed lens, for example using -5 lenses when a -2 lens would easily work for you



I am not saying these ideas are absolutely correct, if you disagree please correct me

If he is at -5 D, he needs a -3 for reading and print pushing at 50 cm, so minus lenses might be necessary for close activity. Even a +0.25 D lens moves his far point from 20 cm (probably impractical) to 19 cm (more impractical).

However, if you never use a minus lens for near, never use overcorrections, and stay at least 50 cm away while reading, your refractive state should never go below -2 D.

The physics thin lens approximation is quite straightforward for calculating lenses:
P=1/f=1/o-1/|i|
P is optical power and f is focal length of the lens
o is the distance to the object you want to see
|i| is the distance to the image that you want (naked eye far point)

If o and |i| are in meters, then f is in meters and P is in diopters.

Hi rtd you said in another thread that you are now at -3D.I seem to remember that your used to be at -5D. That is a huge improvment! Can you share what you did?Your routine and experiences?

honestly, I don't remember writing that

My eyesight has improved and I am not sure by how much

I also wanted to an edit to my above post - using a plus lens may not work for someone who is -5 in each eye

ONLY wear a lens for the distance you need

So in theory, you would need 5 or 6 different pairs of glasses a day for adjustment
