Sunglasses
« on: February 16, 2016, 05:44:33 AM »
A question about sunglasses. I read somewhere that one should wear sunglasses as little as possible, unless needed for medical or extreme light situations(bright snowy days)? Others(medical field) say that one should wear sunglasses more to protect from harmful UV rays...
Thank you!

I'm very curious about this too. I keep hearing people say that cataracts are caused by too much exposure to the sun's UV rays. Should we be wearing sunglasses?

I believe that we should be carefull and wear sunglasses only at high exposure. Bate's followers also do that.

Jake says that some minutes of good exposure (10-15 minutes) may be anecdotally necessary for the eye health.

But I see everywhere that UV light can destroy many things, colours, cables, plastic insulation of cables, DNA molecules... so maybe it is true that much exposure can cause cataracts.

Thank you Alex! Good information. I myself wear sunglasses when outside, on a sunny day, for many hours. Other days, I don't when not outside that long.

If sunglasses are worn too much one can develop sensitivity to intense light (photosensitivity). Even glasses for myopia have 100% UV filters.

That is true, I wear contact and they have UV protection also.  I wear sunglasses mostly for work in outside events doing private security.
