Found this interesting article with a theory on why meditation makes us feel better using principles of opponent process theory. The idea is that daydreaming is actually an addiction, loops are created that initially gave us pleasure (A process) but eventually became inhibited (B process). Meditation breaks this loop by breaking up these concentrations of activation and spreading it more evenly across the body returning normal dopamine sensitivity.

Interesting theory, I haven't seen that much about meditation on this blog and would be interested to see how it fits in. It's mentioned on the stoic page but the section talks about negative visualization but I don't think this is what most people are talking about when talking about meditation.
