Dear Friends,
Subject: You can not expect "better treatment" for your child - than the care an OD provides for his child.
Reference: There are those who say ODs are "making money". But that is not the problem. Here is a statement of an OD applying "Ortho-K" contacts to his own children.
http://www.reviewofcontactlenses.com/content/d/therapeutics/c/40065/His child was "down" by -3.0 diopters. Some OD parents INSIST that "their child" begin wearing the plus, as soon as the child is at 20/30, and -1/2 diopter. For wise parent who forces the child into wearing the plus (and sitting up), prevention is possible. In fact, the child will develop a SLIGHT positive state. But ONLY the conviction of the parent (and full recognition of that -1/2 diopter for the totally natural eye) will convince the parent to do that.
So we are back to an "educated parent" and a wise, motivated child - as the ONLY possibility of prevention - in the future. This is why I insist that prevention is not "medical", nor can you expect any help from an OD in this process. Prevention is just "wisdom", and costs almost nothing. Ortho-k costs $1,700 in the first year, and $1,000 each year afterwards. Plus, used correctly costs $10 per year.
