It seemed to me that after about a month or so of taking cold showers, I was putting on tummy fat. That could be due to a lot of reasons, but I have a "body intuition" that the cold showers are causing it. Body intuitions aren't always right, of course, so I did a little googling to see what other people had found.
It appears that while cold showers seem to cause most people to lose tummy fat, a few other folks think they've noticed gains. Seth Roberts said that he gained two pounds
after a week of cold showers. Michael Allen Smith reports
that the cold showers helped him lose weight when he was overweight, but when he was lean, he gained (I think) tummy fat. He speculates that maybe when you're fat, cold exposure triggers growth of brown adipose tissue, and when you're lean, cold exposure triggers growth of subcutaneous adipose tissue to serve as insulation.
Any other factual information or thoughts about this?
