Why passing 20/40 is very important.

Subject:  Very few people actually check their Snellen- vision.  I think it is very important that you do so

Item:  This is where Dr. Bates needed to be very clear.  If you wish to AVOID the minus, you must pass, not the 20/20 line - but the 20/40 line.

I know that life is a compromise.  Everyone thinks that the OD in his office will be "careful".  In fact they never are careful - meaning they over-prescribe by -1 diopters, with great consistency.

I consider 20/40 to be a "make or break" line for vision improvement.  If I pass the STATE DMV line, then I can legally avoid wearing a minus lens.

The OTHER question is this - how the hell did I get "down to" a double digit minus prescriptions?

For me, it all started with a gross over-prescription when I could still pass the 20/40 line.

This is for your thoughtful review - if you are still working on prevention, and are entering a four year college with 20/40 (self-measured) vision.
